An accidental fire burned 1.7 acres on the hill overlooking Lake Clementia at about 2 p.m., June 25. In the left photo, flames spread through the grass. In the above photo, firefighters finish mopping up. The fire began after a Rancho Murieta Association employee mowed the grass at the edge of the parking lot, maintenance manager Troy Schaffner said. After relocating to another area, the employee noticed the smoke and hurried back. He emptied his water supply and extinguisher and then hopped on his tractor to mow a fire break around the perimeter. Firefighters from CAL FIRE, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and Wilton Fire Protection Fire District extinguished the fire.
