RANCHO MURIETA, CA (MPG) - A 68-year-old man died and two other drivers were injured in a three-vehicle collision on Jackson Highway at Ione Road east of Rancho Murieta at about 6:47 p.m. Jan. 13.

None of the three drivers involved were local, according to Officer Trent Senter, the California Highway Patrol’s East Sacramento Office’s public information officer.

Senter said a 19-year-old Sacramento woman driving a Toyota RAV4 was traveling north on Ione Road and stopped at the stop sign at Highway 16. She then made a left turn directly in the path of a westbound Buick Encore driven by a 68-year-old man from Arnold. The impact caused the Buick to veer into the eastbound lane, where it collided head-on with a Ford F-150 driven by a 45-year-old woman from Pioneer.

Senter reported that the driver of the Buick suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the pickup sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, while the driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

"Alcohol and/or drugs impairment are not believed to have been factors in this collision," Senter said.

CHP blocked Jackson Highway in both directions for approximately three hours.

Capt. Mark Nunez, a Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokesman, said that the driver of the Buick was pronounced dead on the scene. The pickup truck driver was transported Code 2, and the third driver was treated and released on scene.
