Several hundred people, most of them families, turn out for Summerfest’s free July 3 celebration at Stonehouse Park. Children play in two bounce houses and, in the photo at left, a girl makes a splash landing on the water slide. Families enjoy dinner from three food trucks and music by DJ Veezay before line dancing at 7 p.m., as shown in the photo above. One organizer later observed that the evening was notable because people were talking with one another instead of looking at their cell phones, and families visiting for the Fourth of July had a place to gather the day before the holiday. The children’s water balloon contest ended in a five-minute frenzy, but organizers plan to bring it back next year with age divisions and 7,000 ice-cold water balloons. Photos by Gail Bullen
