RANCHO MURIETA, CA (MPG) - Rancho Murieta residents have until 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, to submit questions for an upcoming Rancho Murieta Community Services District Candidate forum moderated by the League of Women Voters of Sacramento County.

Questions should be emailed to [email protected]. Submitting them in advance is especially important because no audience questions will be taken during the forum.

The event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the Rancho Murieta Association meeting room, with the moderated forum beginning at 5:15 p.m. All 10 candidates are invited to participate.

Rancho Murieta resident Lilli Duval, the league’s second vice president and a board member, took the initiative to organize the event because she believes giving residents an opportunity to hear from the candidates is the right thing to do. Her fellow league members welcomed the opportunity to help the community.

The local league also moderated an Aug. 27 congressional candidate forum featuring U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui and Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang, who are competing for the 7th Congressional District seat.

Both RMA and CSD are helping with the Rancho Murieta forum. RMA is providing the meeting room at no charge, a microphone, and help with the audio setup. CSD Interim General Manager Amelia Wilder is assisting with arrangements.

Because of the room’s capacity and community guidelines, attendance is limited to Rancho Murieta residents and their guests. District residents who live outside the gates should tell gate personnel they are attending the candidate forum to receive access.

The league will organize submitted questions into categories. The forum’s format will depend on the number of candidates who participate, with candidates given equal time to respond. Residents may speak directly with candidates after the event.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization that encourages informed and active participation in government and does not support or oppose candidates.

In its announcement, the league described this year’s RMCSD election as having one of Sacramento County’s largest candidate fields and encouraged residents to submit questions and attend.
