RANCHO MURIETA, CA (MPG) - On Oct. 20, in perfect cool autumn weather, 48 players, including eight captains of the Rancho Murieta Women’s Golf Club (RMWGC), took to the North Course of Rancho Murieta Country Club to celebrate all who served as the leader of the group through the years in the annual Captain/Past Captains Tournament.

After the 18-hole round of golf and a buffet luncheon, filled with the friendly energy of reunited acquaintances, the club held an awards ceremony. Thirteen captains participated in the day. Some golfed while others cheered their comrades on to the next great shot. Margaret Neiderberger, captain of RMWGC in 2001, traveled from North Carolina to visit former captain and good friend Marilyn Lauver (captain in 2008) and joined in the festivities.

The golfing scramble event included 48 golfers in two separate flights. All players thrived in the refreshing weather. Awards were presented to the first flight team that ended the 18-hole competition in first place with a net score of 19 strokes under par 72. That team included players Cindy Doty, Rene Lewis, Peggy-Gear Miller, and Bonnie Shewchuck. First place in flight two at a net 16 strokes under par 72 was the team of Beverly Carr-Barrow, Ann Coeur, Doris Hanson (captain of RMWGC in 2005), and Ashlye Sheilds.

More awards were handed out to those golfers who landed their drive closest to the hole on a par three. Landing her ball from the tee only four feet, 11 inches away from the pin on hole No. 2 was Sunny Robinson. Naomi Cook drove her ball to only six feet, 11 inches away from the flag on hole No. 6.

This annual event brings together friends to golf with the past leaders of the group, enjoying memories and good times. It is an event that is alway highly anticipated.
