RANCHO MURIETA, CA (MPG) - William Moss, a lifelong blood donor who has been donating at Rancho Murieta blood drives for the past three years, receives assistance from Vitalant phlebotomist Jessica Flores as he makes a Power Red donation during the Oct. 26 community blood drive at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Power Red donations collect twice the red blood cells of a regular whole-blood donation, returning the remaining blood components to the donor. The drive, sponsored by the Rancho Murieta Women’s Club and Knights of Columbus, met its goal of collecting the equivalent of 57 pints of blood. According to preliminary results from Vitalant, 58 people registered to donate, including two first-time donors. The collection included 49 whole-blood donations and four Power Red donations. Each Power Red donation counted as two donations. Nineteen walk-in donors helped make the drive a success. About 20 donors have already scheduled appointments for the next community blood drive Jan. 25. Photo by Gail Bullen
